Welcome to the Starship Enterprise. I have tried to get away from the monotonus Enter coordinates/star chart Star Trek clones of the past. When the game begins you will be asked for an Easy, Standard or Difficult game. If this is your first trip aboard the Enterprise, I suggest you Select the Easy game. A couple of games at this level will help you get the feel of the ship and it's controls. After your selection, the main screen will be drawn, and the SCANNERS will start to beep, letting you know that all is well. You have a few minutes, so look around and find out where everything is at. All functions are made by hitting the key that is Highlighted for that Command. (Except Alert Status which is selected simply by typing-R,Y,G-for red, yellow and green). *Scanners: This line will keep you informed about what is presently in the immediate vicinity of the Ship. Further details of the object may be obtained by hitting "*". Details will appear in the Status Window at the bottom left of your screen. Speed: Current speed of the Enterprise, selected by hitting "S" at any time. NOTE: you must have previously selected a destination before you will be allowed to select speed.(see Library Computer below). You will be asked to select Warp Drive or Impulse Engines, Then you will be asked for a specific speed from this sub-menu. The maximum safe cruising speed of a Class 1 Destroyer is Warp factor 6. Maximum Emergency Speed is Warp factor 8, but this consumes a great deal of Dilithium crystal energy. Stardate: Current stardate, can not be altered by the user. This is used to time events during the course of your mission. Dest: These are the coordinates of the destination selected from the Library Computer. The name of the Destination will appear directly above these coordinates. Once these coordinates match the ship's position, you will be taken into a parking orbit about the planet, provided that your Impulse Engines are functional. Pos: The current position in space of the Starship Enterprise. These three numbers represent the x,y,z values of the ship in the Galaxy. 0,0,0 is a point at the center of The Great Horsehead Nebula as established by Zefram Cochran after his development of the Warp Drive. These coordinates will be constantly updated as your ship moves through space. When they match the coordinates for the selected destination, you will have achieved orbit. Note: while traveling at Speeds above Warp factor 1, the coordinates may tend to rise and fall over the destination coordinates. This is due to the Space/Time distortion caused by Warp Drive. Your navigator will adjust for the descrepency when the other coordinates begin to match up. Alert Status: R Y G The current condition onboard the Enterprise will be highlighted, and the border of the screen will reflect the highlighted letter. This can be changed by the Captain at any time, simply by pressing the letter of the condition you wish to select. When an enemy vessel approaches the ship, the computer will automatically take you to Red alert. It will not, however, engage the Deflectors. This must be done by the Captain. Deflectors: Current condition of the Deflector sheilds, set by the Captain by pressing "D". If they are up, they will go down and vice versa. (Screens will automatically come on to deflect asteroids if not already on) Phasers When the Captain decides to use these weapons, simply press "P" and you will be given a menu of options. Status and Results of the shot will be shown in the Status Window. You have unlimited Phaser power as long as the Enterprise is operative. Photon Torps: Torpedoes are selected by pressing "T" at any time. You will then be asked how many torpedoes you wish to fire. A maximum of five torpedoes may be fired at any one time. Torpedoes are not unlimted, and the current number available will be displayed at all times. These are a Starships most formidable weapon, and will do a great deal more damage than phasers. They are, however, a lot less accurate. Library Computer Use the Library Computer to select a destination from the ships database. If you are unsure of a planets spelling you may type ALL and you will be given a complete list of the planets available. If you do not spell it correctly, the computer will not recognize it as valid. If you wish to proceed to a Starbase, you must key in SBx, where "x" is the starbase number. If you wish to end your carreer aboard the Enterprise, set a course for Starfleet HQ. After your selection you will be returned to the main screen. Command Report This function will give you the current status of your vessel, estimated repair dates, Status of all 9 starbases, and the condition of your current mission if assigned. If not assigned, the estimated stardate of the next mission will be posted. (Use the time between missions to Refuel/restock at a starbase) Communications This will appear only when there is an unanswered message from Starfleet awaiting your acknowledgement. While this is on the screen the "C" key will bring you the communication, rather than the command report. A few notes If you wish to avoid a fight with a Klingon, simply increase speed to Warp 7 or 8. You will leave them in the dust. The object of this game is NOT to destroy Klingons, but rather to complete as many missions as possible without running out of energy, or being destroyed. Careful managment of your vessel will keep you going indefinitely. The program is fully Rem'd, if you wish to alter any portion of it. Klingons are not something you will encounter at every turn, unless you make the mistake of entering the Neutral Zone. You will be warned in advance when approaching the neutral zone. You will never be given a mission into the neutral zone, so if you find yourself there, well, thats your own lookout. Key Input---After you Make your key selection, there will be a short wait while the program loops through the main section. It can take anywhere from 5 to 10 seconds for a key to be recognized. Just be patient and wait for it. HAVE FUN Ed Spoon SYSOP: Hyperspace
